Using Evie (AI) to create an event

Evie turns a plain-language description into a draft event. On a first-run account, creation follows persona cards → Evie → read-only review → Next inside the dashboard setup drawer. Accounts that already have a published event open the plain event creator instead.

Who sees the first-run Evie flow

You see persona cards and Evie when your team has no published event yet, you are not in demo mode, and AI event setup is available. Solo teams that have not answered the persona question see the persona step first. Teams with more than one member skip persona and go straight to Evie.

After you publish your first event, New Event opens the standard creator. Use the 4-step wizard path anytime you want to build every field yourself.

Choose how you are coming to Eventually

On first-run describe in the dashboard drawer, solo sellers answer persona under First, a bit about you. before Evie opens. Pick one persona card, or choose Skip for now. Either choice advances immediately—there is no separate continue button:

  • I run a space — A studio, shop, or venue

  • I teach or host — Classes, workshops, dinners

  • I'm part of an organization — A nonprofit, church, or club

  • I build sites for clients — Designer, agency, freelancer (shows a Partner badge)

Persona is stored once for the team. It does not block event creation.

Describe the event with Evie

After persona (or immediately for multi-member first-run teams), Evie shows Ask Evie in the drawer when AI event setup is available. When you picked a persona, the heading uses that greeting (for example What's on at your space?, What are you teaching?, What's your group putting on?, or What's your client putting on?). The drawer subheading is Describe it the way you'd tell a friend. Evie sets up the rest. Without a persona override, Evie defaults to heading Let's plan your next event.

  1. On a first-run account, open the dashboard setup drawer on describe. First-run create paths open that drawer in place instead of a separate full-page create screen. After first publish, open New Event.

  2. In the Evie text area, describe the event. Include the name, date, time, price, capacity, and anything else you want filled in. Each description is limited to 1000 characters.

  3. Optional: click Add a photo to attach a cover image. Photos must be PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF and less than 5MB. Remove a selected photo with Remove photo.

  4. Submit the description with the arrow button next to the prompt.

Placeholder example: Watercolor class on March 31st for 100 people, $50 class only, $100 with supplies...

The drawer describe step also shows a Live preview column with Your event previews here once Evie builds it.

To leave Evie without generating a draft, choose Build your event manually from the drawer or use the wizard path in Creating an event with the 4-step wizard.

When Evie is unavailable

If AI event setup is not available, the dashboard hides the Evie composer. The drawer describe step shows Evie is offline right now — the manual creator walks you through the same event, step by step. and Build your event manually. On the main dashboard composer slot, you see + Create an event instead of the prompt.

This is separate from a temporary parse failure. When Evie is available but a parse fails, you stay on the composer with your text restored so you can edit and try again.

Review and publish the draft

A successful Evie parse creates a draft. On a first-run, non-demo account, Eventually returns you to the dashboard and opens the setup drawer on review—not the standalone Review — [event title] page. Established or demo sellers still use the standalone review page.

Review shows heading Here's your event and body Evie put this together from what you wrote. Check it over — you can change anything. In the drawer, a right-hand pane labeled Your widget — preview can show an owner-only draft preview. That preview is not a live embed on your site.

Review shows the cover image (if any), title, description, When, Where, and Tickets. Empty tickets show No tickets yet. Recurring drafts can show Repeats — set the schedule before publishing.

From review you can:

  • Click Next in the drawer (or Publish event on the standalone review page). Both show Publishing… while publishing when nothing is blocking publish.

  • Click Edit all the details to open the full wizard and change any field. From the drawer, saving or canceling returns you to drawer review so you stay in setup.

  • If publish is blocked, read Almost — this needs a little more before it can go live. Each blocker is a link into the wizard step that needs work. The publish action stays disabled until those gaps are fixed.

  • On a draft, choose Start a different event instead to leave this draft and open a fresh create path.

If you connect Squarespace checkout from a paid draft before publish, the drawer can show Connected ✓ — Next puts your event live and opens ticket sales. Connecting checkout does not publish the event.

Publishing your first event completes the describe setup outcome only after the event is published—not when the draft is created. First-run single publish then opens the dashboard drawer on brand. Bulk publish, CSV first publish, demo mode, and already-finished onboarding still hand off to Set up your widget. See Finish setup on your dashboard.

First-run Evie drafts use drawer review as the publish checkpoint. Evie no longer drops you straight into the multi-step wizard after a successful parse, and first-run review no longer leaves the dashboard shell.

Resume an abandoned Evie draft

If you leave an Evie draft unfinished on a first-run account, Eventually reopens the dashboard drawer on review instead of restarting persona and Evie. The setup panel mirrors this: when only a draft exists, the first step becomes Finish your event with helper Pick up where you left off.

If you already finished onboarding, opening New Event again resumes that draft on the standalone review page. You see the notice Pick up where you left off.

Start fresh or create manually

Use these escapes when you do not want to resume the current Evie draft:

  • In the drawer, click Build your event manually. That path starts a fresh create and does not bounce you back into the abandoned draft’s review screen.

  • On the review step for a draft, click Start a different event instead.

  • Use the wizard path to open the full field-by-field flow without generating a draft from the prompt.

If Evie cannot set up the event

When parse fails on a first-run account, you return to the drawer describe step with your description still in the prompt. Resume does not replace a failed attempt with an older draft while that failure is in flight.

Messages you may see include:

  • Please describe your event before submitting.

  • Please keep your description under 1000 characters.

  • Evie is temporarily unavailable.

  • AI event setup is not configured yet.

  • Something went wrong. Please try again.

  • Photo must be a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF.

  • Photo must be less than 5MB.

  • Your photo didn't carry over — re-attach it before sending. when a previous photo did not round-trip with the failed attempt

Fix the description or photo, then submit again, or switch to Build your event manually.
