Delete or cancel an event date with ticket holders
Deleting a date that people have booked no longer removes their registrations on its own. When a date in a recurring series has ticket holders, Delete this date opens a dialog that shows who is affected and asks what should happen to them: keep their tickets by cancelling the session, cancel and refund them, or move them to another date. Only owners and admins can delete events.
Delete a booked date
Work from the event page for the full set of choices, including moving buyers. The events list and bulk deletion offer the same dialog without the move choice.
Open the event date in your dashboard.
In the status panel, click Delete. The dialog is titled Delete this date?.
Review who is affected: the dialog shows how many people hold tickets to the date, any series ticket holders, and anyone on the date's waitlist.
Choose Keep their tickets, Cancel and refund them, or Move them to another date.
If you chose to move buyers, select another upcoming date in the same series that can take them.
Confirm the deletion.
Keep their tickets: cancel the session instead
Keep their tickets turns the deletion into a cancellation. The dialog title changes to Cancel this session?, and confirming shows the notice Session cancelled instead of deleted, so its buyers keep their tickets.
The date stays on your calendar as cancelled, and the rest of the series stays on sale.
Buyers keep their tickets and receive your cancellation email if it is turned on.
Waitlist entries for the date are kept.
Cancel and refund them
Cancel and refund them deletes the date and records each buyer's registration as refunded. No money moves automatically: the confirmation lists every paid buyer with the amount and the payment service, under the heading No money moves automatically. Refund these payments by hand:. After you confirm, the result notice names the same buyers and where to refund them, for example Refund their payments in Stripe: Alice Example ($25.00), Bob Example ($40.00). When buyers paid through different services, the notice reads Refund their payments in Squarespace or Stripe and lists them together. Free tickets and checkouts still in progress are not part of this refund list.
Complete each named refund where the order was paid, in Squarespace or in Stripe. See Issuing refunds.
Move them to another date
Move them to another date transfers the date's ordinary buyers to another date in the same series, then deletes the date. Buyers receive your ticket moved email naming both dates. This choice appears only when you delete from the event page: the events list and bulk deletion offer only the keep and refund choices.
A target date must be a live, upcoming date in the same series that can take everyone: it must sell the tiers the buyers hold, have room for everyone holding a ticket to this date, and a buyer who already has a ticket to that date cannot move there. The dialog marks unavailable targets as "(not available)". If no date can take them, the move choice is unavailable and the dialog reads No other upcoming date in this series can take them.
Series ticket holders
Series ticket holders are not refunded or moved. They keep their series pass and simply miss the deleted session. The dialog reports them separately: 1 series ticket holder keeps their series ticket and misses this session, with no refund.
Waitlisted guests
Deleting the date removes its waitlist entries. The dialog warns you first: 1 person is on this date's waitlist. Deleting the date takes them off it. If you choose Keep their tickets, the waitlist is kept and this warning does not appear.
Deleting the first date of a series
Deleting the first date affects only that date. The next date takes over as the first date of the series, and the rest of the series stays on sale. The success notice reads Event deleted. The next date now leads the series. If you restore this date, it comes back as its own event, outside the series. Restoring the deleted date later returns it as a standalone event, not as a series date. See Restore a deleted event.
When the delete is refused
A delete that cannot run is stopped before anything changes. The refusal message tells you what to do:
Someone is checking out for this date right now
Someone bought a ticket while you were deleting
You see: Someone bought a ticket to this date while you were deleting it. Reload the page and choose again. Reload the page and start the deletion again so the dialog reflects the new buyer list.
The move target was not eligible
You see: Pick another live date of this series to move them to. Pick a live, upcoming date in the same series that can take the buyers.
It is the last date of a series that sells series tickets
You see: This is the last date of a series that sells series tickets through its Event Series. Delete the series from its own page instead, so its series ticket holders are taken care of. Delete the series from its own page instead.
Delete or cancel?
Cancel event cancels a date and keeps every registration without offering refunds or moves; see Cancel a class and email registered guests. Deleting a booked date goes further: you can refund buyers or move them to another date, and Keep their tickets performs that same cancellation for you. Dates without ticket holders, and already cancelled or completed events, delete without this dialog.
