How discount codes work
Discount codes for event tickets are created and managed in Squarespace Commerce, not in Eventually. Paid tickets are purchased through Squarespace Commerce checkout, so a discount code reduces the order there, and Eventually records the discounted amount on each registration.
Create a discount code in Squarespace
Manage discount codes in your Squarespace site's Commerce settings under Discounts. There is no discount-code editor in Eventually. Every Eventually plan includes discount codes, and the codes themselves are set up on the Squarespace side.
How a discount reaches your tickets
When a buyer uses a Squarespace discount code on an order that contains your tickets, we import the order and apply the discount across the ticket lines. Each registration records the amount actually paid after the discount, in the order's currency. A ticket fully covered by a discount records as paid in full at zero, and buyers purchasing the same ticket type receive the same prorated post-discount price, while different ticket types can receive different post-discount prices.
Squarespace discounts apply to the whole order, not to a single ticket type. If the order includes non-ticket items, the discount is spread across all of the order's lines, including your tickets.
Discount codes, access codes, and pre-sale codes
These are three separate systems, and customers often expect them to work the same way. They don't:
What it does | Where you set it up | |
|---|---|---|
Discount code | Reduces the price the buyer pays at checkout | Squarespace Commerce, under Discounts |
Access code | Hides a ticket type until the buyer enters the code; the price stays the same | Eventually, per ticket type |
Pre-sale code | Unlocks the early-access window of a pre-sale; it is not a price reduction | Eventually, on the pre-sale |
If you want select buyers to see a lower price, two approaches work: create a hidden ticket type with a lower price and gate it with an access code, or create a discount code in Squarespace that applies at checkout.
Promo codes are for subscription billing only
Eventually's checkout screen for your own subscription has a Promo code field. It applies to what you pay for your Eventually plan and has no effect on event ticket prices.
If you arrived at Eventually through a partner referral, that partner's discount applies automatically at your first subscription checkout. You don't enter or see a promo code: the checkout shows the offer's terms instead, such as a percentage off for a set number of months. Entering another promo code replaces the automatic offer, and removing that code restores it.
Credit codes for ticket changes
When you move a guest to a cheaper ticket or class and they are owed money, Eventually sends you to Squarespace to create a credit code for the difference. This uses Squarespace's Discounts settings too, and is separate from promotional discount codes. See Change a guest's ticket tier or move them to a different class.
